Leroy's Astrophotos

The images of a passion...

 my

Sunspots in the year of Solar Maximum! I am interested in photography of eclipses, deep sky, the Sun & Moon, and wide-field regions. I have wanted to be able to do astrophotography since getting my first telescope. I have finally accumulated the equipment, and adapters, now I just need to accumulate the expierence.

I can now take photos using:

Lunar Mosaic at f/10 Above: The Sun w/sunspots through the 25cm f/6.3, taken 6/10/2000.

Left: Lunar Mosaic at 30cm f/10, taken 9/10/2000.

Below: Christmas 2000 Partial Solar Eclipse w/sunspots at maximum (21%) from Tucson, AZ.

Eclipse at maximum from Tuscon, AZ!
Below Left: High contrast shot with 30cm f/6.3, taken 1/8/2001, 16.5 hours before Full Moon. Kodak Select Black & White + ISO 400 1/15th second. Below Right: An enhanced version of the same, thanks to John Polhamus.
High contrast Full Moon! Image enhanced version - thanks John!

Piggyback Photography: On 30cm unguided, 2-5 minute exposures. Kodak Royal Gold ISO 400. Top Left: Melotte 111, the Coma Star Cluster in Coma Berenices. Top Right: The constellations Lyra and most of Cygnus. Bottom: The Big Dipper, part of Ursa Major.

The Big Dipper These are my first attempts at wide field piggyback shots, and I have since found out that I should have stopped down my camera lens (from f/1.8) a couple of stops to reduce vignetting from the camera lens.
Below Left: First Quarter Moon with 105mm f/14, taken 1/22/2002. The bluish tint may be due to use of old film. Wolf Camera promises an improved photo CD once they get a software upgrade. Right now, it doesn't handle black backgrounds too well. Below Right: Lunar Crescent with 105mm f/14, taken 2/16/2002. Focus was ok, wind jitters were not.

Below: My first astro-digicam shot taken of the Sun, taken with a 127mm f/10 on 4/21/2002.
