The Distinguished Engineering Service Award honors Ed Kindberg because of his unwavering dedication and leadership to the engineering profession throughout his life. He passed away on September 23, 2009 at the age of 93. After he retired to Southern California, he was an avid volunteer on the NEW Committee and helped make the local NEW celebration the significant event it is today. After his passing, the NEW Committee decided to honor his memory by establishing a Distinguished Engineering Service Award. The intent of the award is to recognize an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to advance or recognize the engineering profession in the Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties.
