8 vo. (8 ins.) Light and dark blue, illustrated, paper boards. The spine is blue cloth. Published by The Lotus Press, Detroit Michigan, in 1930. This is a first edition, first printing. The binding and pages are made from high quality material. The page edges are rough-cut, as issued. A collection of twenty-four poems; each page with a poem has a decorative bar at the top. Association copy: the pastedown has the gift bookplate of Thomas Herbert Dickinson to The University of Wisconsin Library. There are 32 pages.


On the first free end page is written, in Leonard's hand: "For Thomas Herbert Dickinson, from (signed) William Ellery Leonard, Madison, Wisconsin, November 10, 1930."

The second end page reads: "There are but 143 copies of this book printed from type which was distributed on the day of publication. Of the 135 copies for sale, signed and numbered by the author, this is Number..."

And below this, in Leonards hand, is written: "139, (signed) William Ellery Leonard" and in parenthesis: "('139' is thus not one the copies for sale - W. E. L.) "Not" is underlined, and W.E.L. appears to the lower right.

Also on this page is a pasted-in errata note from the publisher. There are eight corrections printed on it, and an additional correction in Leonard's hand: "P. 28, for 'seered' read 'seared'." Seered and seared are underlined. All nine errata notes have corresponding hand corrections by Leonard within the text.

In this volume was found an "off-print" of a letter to the editor of The Nation, with margin notes in Leonard's hand writing.

Condition: Very Good. Ex university library - not for circulation. None of the usual library marks. The covers and spine are only lightly shelf worn. There is just a hint of rubbing and bumping. The binding is tight and square. The cover is very good, with a little shelf wear. The hinge was cracked, and has been gently reglued at page 13, using acid free glue. A couple pages have light foxing and smudges. Overall, a clean, tight, and square copy.
