Edited by Garrett P. Serviss
In Mint Contition with Original Wax Paper Protectors and Shipping Box with Label
12 mo. (7-7/8 ins.) Navy blue cloth leatherette (Fabrikoid) cover boards with pale-green lettering and design. The spines have gilded lettering and pale-green title boxes. Published by P. F. Collier, New York, in 1941. This is a reprint edition. There are color frontispieces in each volume, and numerous black and white illustrations. Written by eminent scholars and noted experts. The binding material and paper are of high quality. The illustrations are on special, thick paper. The endpages are illustrated in green and white. Each book has over 350 pages. This is the complete set, in six volumes.
The titles are:
The Story of the Starry Universe
by David Todd
The Story of Mechanics
by A. Russell Bond
The Story of Our Earth
by William J. Miller
The Story of Chemistry
by Hippolyte Gruener
The Story of Force and Motion
by D. W. Hering
The Story of Electricity and Magnetism
by Robin Beach
Also included are 5 (and some of the 6th) original wax-paper-like jackets. They resemble dustjackets, but do not have printing. They are thin, brown, opaque paper sleeves used to protect the covers durring shipment.
Plus, as if that weren't enough, we are including the original publisher's shipping box. It is made of cardboard and measures 8-1/4 by 6 by 9 inches. There is a green and white label that reads: Popular Science Library, Six Volumes Bound in Blue Fabrikoid, P. F. Collier and Son Corporation, form 3803."
Condition: Fine. This entire set appears unread. The original owner must have put them in storage, still in the shipping box. Probably in a dark closet; not in the basement or cellar because there is absolutly no smell or other sign of exposure to dampness. The spines are not faded at all; even the shipping box is still fairly bright. The hinges are tight and stiff; unopened. The only blemishes found are that one volume has a light smudge (fingerprint) on the outside edge of the pages, and it has a page with a creased corner. A couple other volumes have a slight crease on the first few pages. These creases most likely happened durring printing or storage. The cover texture is like-new and the title gilt is very bright.
The protective wrappers are in good condition. One is missing most of the back. The others have tears and scratches, but are mostly intact.
The shipping box is also good. One flap has had the inside top layer removed; otherwise it is intact. There is a piece of old reinforcing tape. The publisher's label is a bit dingy, but complete.
In order to protect the exceptional condition of this set, we will place the books, in the original shipping box, within another box for shipment.
