12 mo. (7-1/2 ins.) Blindstamped green cloth boards with gilded lettering and detail on the spine. Published by The Century Company, New York, in 1923. This is a true first thus edition; the first edition of Leonard's translation. (This is not the illustrated edition.) Signed and initialed by the author. The presentation inscription on the first free endpage reads: "For ... (name), her mother's studious daughter, with affectionate solicitude from the translator of this noble and gentle poem, W E L; Madison, Oct. 9, 1941." The half-title is signed: "by William Ellery Leonard" beneath the title. There are a few black and white reproductions of photographs. [ixx] + 153 pages, including the indices.
Condition: Very Good. Lightly bumped and rubbed. Slight soiling on the covers. The texture is near fine; the blindstamping is crisp. There is an owner's name on the front paste-down, a couple corrections in ink on page x, and the endpages are darkened.
