CONGRAGULATIONS! OUR COLOR GUARD NAMED NORTH EAST REGION CHAMPIONS

colorguard254.gif

Cadets from Dutchess County Composite Squadron, the Dutchess County based Civil Air Patrol Squadron competed in a North East Color Guard competition on May 19-20, 2006. The competition consisted of 7 events: Uniform inspection, Standard Drill, Indoor Posting of the Colors, Outdoor Posting (raising and lowering flag as well as proper folding of the Colors), written test, panel quiz and Mile Run. There are 5 cadets on a team, 2 girls and 3 boys. Six states sent Color Guard competition teams: New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. All the competitors had to win a competition in their own State before advancing to the State competition.

In order to train for this competition, the cadets practiced every Sunday afternoon for 4 hours as well as on Friday nights for another several hours. In addition, they studied their Leadership and Aerospace chapters at home so that they could be quizzed during the practices.

All this practice and study paid off with spectacular results. The Dutchess County Cadets took First place in the competition garnering 6 trophies. They took 1st place in 3 of the 7 events and 2nd in the other two. Individual awards were also earned. The Fleet Foot award trophy for the fastest female runner went to C/Amn Erin Jedlicka who attends Ketcham HS. Her time for the Mile Run was 6:15. The trophy for the highest grade on the written test was awarded to C/CMSgt David Smith who also attends Ketcham HS in Wappingers Falls.

Maj Gladys Suessle, their coach and Squadron Commander of Dutchess County Composite Squadron is extremely proud of the accomplishment of these 5 outstanding young adults!

The cadets (ages 13-18) of Dutchess County Composite Squadron meet each Monday evening from 6:30 to 9 PM at Dutchess County Airport. For more info, please call 845. 462-1000.
