A Prayer for Steadfastness
As the sincerity of my mind
and heart are tested,
I pray, dear God, for steadfastness
so that the sight of my true face
inspires compassion for the ugly,
appreciation of simple beauty,
and joy in the understanding
that truth always remains,
even after the worst transgression.
May I quickly be bored with that which
is too easily attained.
May pleasure exist in my life
as one facet on a perfectly cut jewel.
And may I be only comfortable enough
to dispel unwarranted concerns.
Enliven me with challenges so that
I feel The Promise
lingering inside my scarred heart.
Awaken my senses with the taste of
a possibility not yet fully conceived.
Breathe forgiveness into a forsaken past
so that I may meet today's lessons
with a clarity of mind.
Show me my empty words so that
silence will teach me.
Teach me the silence that
speaks to others
and surround me with people who dare
to be true to themselves.
Answer my prayer, dear God
and I rise true to my calling.
Each new test brings forth
the wondrous nature of challenge
and the distinction between
winning and losing is overshadowed
by
continuous
movement
forward.
