Seen on the river.
You meet someone and unforeseen
find this whisper upon your lips -
home home.
Nearly so, nearly. Her gaze feathers
your brow into circles of flight. Across
brown and swirly water, boldly
you raise sky-brown arms
crossing intended affection.
Oars pray into doubts, lifting lifting.
You make her laugh and her voice
rolls to you as wind harvesting wheat.
A hundred hands parade as breezes,
each intent to pass or play - choose.
Summer sun calls the river skyward.
Faithful sailor, you watch the mirror sky.
And within her secret heart, albatross
dreams roam untethered -
mending day and dark, feather by feather,
and you know this one-star in blue-sky,
companion within the stranger.
You discover close and far
are one horizon. You watch the river.
You watch her image drift - grey
within black, coils of devotion,
fabric of the current.
Eddies join and seal the rift
of what has been. In faith
you know this jade summer smile passes
for next to be, this river you
will not leave nor will leave you.
Suddenly you meet someone and
you've fallen home - briefly briefly.
