Master Sergeant Jesse J. Floyd, USAF (Retired) was one of the the
initial Assistant Aerospace Science Instructors at Emsley A. Laney High
School, NC 802 from 28 August 1980 to 30 June 1993. At that time he became
the first Assistant Aerospace Science Instructor at the newly established
AFJROTC program at Thompson High School, AL 932, Alabaster, Alabama. During
his tenure at E. A. Laney High School, the AFJROTC unit, NC 802, achieved
Meritorious Unit status six times and Honor Unit status one time.
MSgt Floyd was born in Greenville, North Carolina and graduated from
Eppes High School at Greenville, NC. He joined the United States Air Force
on 21 July 1959 and retired from active duty at Dover AFB, Delaware on
1 February 1980 with more than 20 years of service. When he retired, he
was an Armed Forces Courier at Dover AFB, DE and had held that position
for a little more than one year. Other assignments included: Equal Opportunity
and Treatment NCO, Camp Amsterdam, The Netherlands (1974-1978); Non-Commissioned-Officer-in-Charge
of Equal Opportunity and Treatment, Grand Forks AFB, Grand Forks, North
Dakota (1972-74); Race Relations Instructor, Kunsan Air Base, Korea (1971-1972);
Corrosion Control Supervisor, Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona (1963-1967); Senior
Vehicle Operator, France (1961-1963); and Senior Vehicle Operator, Mather
AFB, CA (1959-1961). MSgt Floyd has received the Air Force Junior ROTC
Outstanding Instructor Award (Top 10%) twice.
