Star of the show at Chuck DeLuca's maritime auction was a 19th century carving (#61), which went over estimate ($3500-5000) at $7500. A 1918 A. Schrader & Son Navy Mark V diving helmet (#4) sold for $2900 (est.$2500-3500).
A variety of instruments, scrimshaw, marine art, models, ordnance and other items were offered. At the low end of the scale, a wooden bitt from a Cape Cod whale boat went for $10 (est. $50-75).

#213: Sextant, Reynolds, w/ key and all accessories, $500 (est. $750-900).
#214: Octant, Spencer Browning & Co., ca. 1850, 12", ebony and brass with
ivory scales, $450 (est. $500-750).
#324: Contemporary scrimshaw whale tooth by Stan Lucas $850 (est. $500-750).
#325: Very early (although not period) 7 1/2" scrimshaw whale tooth $900
(est. $750-900).
#474: Solid brass spotlight from dredge Sealane, with provenance, $100
(est. $350-500).
#475: Boat signal lantern with burner, $50 (est. $100-150).
Of the 551 lots offered at Chuck DeLuca's auction, 31 passed or were withdrawn. Sales totaled $285,754.50 for an average lot price of $550. His next auction will be held at San Rafael, California, October 26, 1996.
