* Year: 1979 * Current Price: US $79,500 * Located in Deltaville, VA * Engine: Diesel TRYST, as she is known, is a single owner, immaculate, cutter rigged Fantasia 35. The center cookpit is fully enclosed by a hard dodger offering exceptional protection during inclement weather. FANTASIA Designers Concepts The Fantasia 35 was designed by Bruce Bingham, N.A., to provide a sea-going yacht of the highest quality, capable of long ocean passages in comfort and safety with full consideration of these important aspects of cruising: Simplicity Economy Stowage Crew Privacy Performance. These criteria have been very well met. Mr. Binghams extremely efficient use of space produced accommodations seldom seen in yachts under forty feet overall, After Hull #52, some design modifications by Robert Harris, N.A., were incorporated which improved sailing characteristics and revised the interior layout somewhat. The FANTASIA 35 is a 4-compartment cruising sloop with the main diesel engine completely accessible from three sides under a center cockpit. A large standing-headroom passage to starboard incorporates a well-arranged head and shower. On the opposite side a workshop is set up with a workbench and shelving. The accommodations provide two permanent, double, private sleeping quarters in forward and aft cabins. The L-shaped dinette seats four comfortably. The galley is well equipped with a 3-burner stove and oven, dish racks, silverware drawer, and, on TRYST, a refrigerator/freezer. A navigation station is fitted a with full-size chart table with stowage beneath, chart rack, shelves for books and radios. A full-suspension file drawer is fitted on TRYST directly across from the chart desk. The owner's stateroom aft has exceptional roominess and the adjoining head with its double-door privacy provides a suite that enhances liveaboard comfort and luxury. A full-length, double hanging locker, a bureau with large drawers, plus shelves and cabinets and, on TRYST, a spacious soiled clothes locker give exceptional stowage. The forward cabin with its V berth-arrangement has 8 deep drawers, four deep lockers with doors, a large hanging locker, and cabinets and shelves.Construction of the Fantasia 35 is in excess of Lloyds recommendations with ½ hand-laid solid glass laminate increasing to 7/8 at the turn of the bilge. Her cabin and deck is a one-piece molded sandwich of approximately 1 thickness. All interior beams, cleats, and clamps are mahogany. Fuel tanks are 1/8 black iron and water tanks are stainless. All tanks are fully baffled and have clean-out plates accessible through sole hatches. Ballast is a solid iron casting bonded and fiberglassed over after positioning. All hatches, bulwark caps, and trim are teak while topside hardware is stainless. TRYST has been further modified with the addition of a strong hard dodger (read: dry boat), electric windlass, extensive ground tackle, two solar panels, heating, refrigeration, autopilot, and many other significant improvements. The photos and narative below point out primary areas of Tryst. Please click here for additional photos. View forward in main cabin The over seven-foot headroom in the Main Salon, the expansive floor space and a uniquely open layout add a dimension of comfort seldom experienced in boats much larger than TRYST. The dining table is large enough to seat four comfortably, six, if necessary on custom foam and upholstery cushions.A paneled interior with beautiful hand-rubbed teak joinery embellished with paneled elliptical cabin doors, and practical shelf fiddles provides a comforting sense of shipwright quality seldom experienced in this day of production interiors.Ample bookshelf space attests to the recognition of the needs of both the cruising family and the marina live-aboard. We do not believe that any boat on the market under forty feet approaches the comfort, efficient use of space, or feeling of openness as does a Fantasia. And TRYST is a shining example of the best of the Fantasias. Galley TRYSTs galley is both spacious and practical. All the conveniences are in place over-the-counter dish racks, lockers for bottles and boxes, hot & cold pressure water, foot pump for fresh water, Seagull IV water purifier, microwave oven, ample stowage space for pots and pans, three-burner, gimbaled stove with oven and broiler below, and a spacious holding-plate-cooled refrigerator/freezer. And, there is a custom-built pantry with shelves to hold your canned goods, paper goods, condiments, cereals and dried foods. Spices are stowed on their own rack inside the pantry door. Silverware and knives fit in a drawer under the salon table. A locker under each of the companionway ladder steps can be used for large kitchen utensils or as well as miscellaneous stowage space. Every convenience of an efficiency apartment is available at hand. Navigation station Consisting of a chart table with hinged top with considerable stowage beneath; a chart stowage rack with space for approximately 20 charts at a time; plenty of shelf and cupboard space for operation manuals, navigation and seamanship reference books, catalogs, and guide books helps to make the process of passage planning efficient. There is plenty of space for mounting radios and navigation equipment below the shelves and cupboards. The Navigation Station seat has a large drawer and stowage beneath it as well as behind the back of the seat. Additionally, a large, full-suspension file drawer immediately across from the seat provides a place to file business and/or boat operation documents. In the cockpit there is a second chart surface, together with a chart rack for temporary storage while underway. The Head The Head and Shower arrangement is one of TRYSTs most imaginative features, being located as the aft cabin walk-through. Full headroom is found throughout its 4 x 6 dimensions; an incomparable standard not a cramped space with little room to turn around! Hot and cold pressure water, Formica vanity, large louvered lockers suitable for linens and personal grooming items, full-length grab rail and vanity mirror, teak-grated sole, and an opening port all contribute to making this a remarkable space in a yacht this size.
Aft Cabin The beauty of the hand rubbed teak and the efficiency of design are carried through to the Aft Master Cabin where the adjoining head with its double doors give a degree of first-class privacy that enhances the feeling of true liveaboard comfort and luxury. Not only is there full headroom, but also the spacious double hanging locker offers space for hanging trousers as well as a long dress or two. The expansive teak bureau/dresser arrangement includes drawers, bins, and a six-foot top with a restraining fiddle. Additional stowage can be found in adrawer under the wide queen-size berth and in the cabinets and shelves which encircle the entire cabin. Two opening trunk ports, a port light, a large deck hatch, and two dorade ventilators make the after stateroom both light and airy while the hull port alongside the berth provides an entrancing andever-changing vista of the sea and weather conditions. The richness of the hand-rubbed teak is everywhere hull ceilings, cabinetry, and soleall handcrafted to standards seen only on yachts of the finest quality. Forecabin The Forward Cabin is not simply a place to stow sailbags and gear, it was designed as a livable, twin stateroom a ffording privacy, stowage , and space for the guest couple deserving comfort. Eight deep drawers, four lockers, a large hanging locker, over ten feet of shelving, plus a handy overhead cabinet provide a convenient place for everything. And there is 6 10 headroom! Twin hull ports, located at the head of each berth promise the unforgettable and delightfully pleasant experience of gazing down at the bow wave or toward shore when underway. The large deck hatch and cabin port contribute to the feeling of space and offer good ventilation. Shop to port It is difficult to adequately describe the workshop/sail locker except to say that it is another of the very practical features of this spacious yacht. There is a place for tools, spare parts, generator, and much more, away from the living space. Even the Aries Tilt-Up Windvane is stowed in the shop in its own custom chocks. A workbench is uncommon on a 35 foot sailboat, but TRYST has one on which a vice can be mounted, and there is a space for every wrench. This arrangement has to be seen to be appreciated. Engine The engine room on TRYST is not hidden below the salon sole nor is it under a box to be removed before accessing it. It is accessible in all weathers and from three sides. Normal engine maintenance and repairs can be made with full access to the sections of the engine involved. Three removable panels enable servicing. On TRYST, the companionway ladder has been modified such that it swings up to allow clear access to the front of the engine, while a panel in the workshop/sail locker and/or another in the head can be removed for further access. A sole plate in the Aft Master Cabin gives good access to the shaft log and packing gland. The Yanmar 30 horsepower engine has proven itself to be a reliable, easily-serviced, and powerful power source.
