In the Place of the Public is the figurative and linguistic characterisation of the "Nichtortes," whose location and temporalness are erased by technical, consumer-oriented standardization. There are the airports of the world and their architectural exchangeability in the configuration and canalization of the host of visitors. The sketches and the lining of the halls, waiting zones and courses is to the smooth conversion of the safety regulations and optimal functioning of the control devices adapted. The monotonousness of the visual features caused the artist to explain the airport terminals as the metaphor of a life itself from the alienation from place, time, origin, homeland and community constitution. Symbolized the railway halls in 19th Century in the painting still progress and dynamics, then are Rosler's small picture photographies of airports at the end of the 20th Century of symbols of the "Ausdruckslosigkeit" and the attraction poverty, pictures of the deadlock and between innumerable targets. The "geschaeftige" self picture of a collective public undermined of sort and emptiness. |
