YVONNE GEORGETTE REESE, deceased, was born, and buried,
at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, while her father was stationed there in
the Navy. The following poem was written by her mother, Paula, to her as
a memorial to her tragically short lifetime:
YVONNE
Lying in bed
Alone.
I hear them come
And pass me by.
I held my child
And loved her.
Safe inside me
Yet I cried.
Child of love
Where are you?
Sleeping in your bed
Gone from me.
Is there no space,
No quiet spot,
Where I in peace
Can shed my tears?
The earth-your cradle.
The sky-your cover.
Our hearts your home
Forever.
