I enlisted in the Navy in June 1972. I had always desired to have command at sea and therefore obtained a commission and became a surface warfare and diving and salvage officer. I am currently designated as a Special Operations Officer. I served aboard the USS GEARING (DD 710) and USS CHOWANOC (ATF100) while on active duty. After approximately five years of active duty in the United States Navy, I decided to attend law school and remain in the selective reserve. I have served my reserve active duty both at sea and at various shore commands. In my civilian occupation as an attorney, I worked for the Department of Justice for a period of approximately six years in the office of the United States Trustee, responsible for the supervision of bankruptcies in Colorado and Kansas. At the same time I taught the Bankruptcy/Debtor-Creditor and Legal Accounting courses at the University of Denver College of Law, and currently teach at Arapahoe Community College in the paralegal program. Since 1987 I have established a sole practice in the area of general business litigation, debtor-creditor workouts, and bankruptcy litigation. I am married to Diane M. (Schumacher) Oppenheim of Denver, Iowa, and have two daughters, Jessica Marie, born in 1981, and Jaime Lynn, born in 1985. I am a native of Denver, Colorado (3rd generation native) and currently reside in Littleton, Colorado. As of 01DEC03 I was transferred to the Retired Reserve with 32 years of service. |
