I was born in Newark, NJ in what was known as Little Italy the old First ward. I had always wanted to join the Navy the first time I was 15 years old and almost got away with in but some Chief recruiter got suspicious when he looked at my birth certificate. But I eventually got older so needless to say I didn't have to change any dates on my NEW birth certificate.

Went to Bainbridge Md. for recruit training then did some time mess cooking at the same place. I had put in for the John Paul Jones a tincan that a friend of mine that was a commissary man with me at the time But as the Navy goes they transferred me to the Naval Air Station in Va. But alas they found my papers for the J. P. J. and transfered me to the USS Warrington DD843 this was a great move for me and gave me the reason for joining the Navy to see the world.
