The Garden in spring, just after the Cape Oxalis is removed and the soil is bare and tilled

Our space spans the interior of the city block between Jersey and 25th Street. We even have a well to water the lower garden!

Our trees include: Apple, Persimmon, Fig, Lemon Verbena, multiple Lemon, Lemon/Orange, and white peach/apricot. Apparently, my Landlady's (Despina) husband (Nicko) was an active grafter (bless his heart).

We have been extremely blessed to have this place as a home.

West Side: notice the Orange/Lemon Tree!

Ian and I moved in on July 4, 2001.

The yard was a blanket of Yellow Sunflowers that stood about 10-12 feet tall. It was a beautiful site.

The soil was thoroughly depleted in nutrients and Despina's vegetables did not fair too well that season. The Sunflowers RULED! and reseeded for the next season.
Despina decided to share the plot with me. I do most of the planting.

I started by adding lots of steer manure and organic compost mix.

These photos do not document that step.
