NEW RESOURCES FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS AND ABUSERS TO LAUNCH IN WEST VALLEY

August 19, 2007 (Phoenix)--There aren’t enough domestic violence resources in Phoenix, but thanks to the launch of the Family Renewal Center, new services will be available for the first time in the West Valley.

Family Renewal Center’s purpose is to provide women long-term housing after their time expires at a shelter. This secondary housing is key to keeping a woman from returning to an abusive situation. The program will offer a woman and her children housing in a single-family home for up to two years. Additionally, she will be provided with furniture and household items that are hers to keep, counseling, legal and life skill services and help in finding a permanent home.

Family Renewal Center is currently purchasing homes in El Mirage and Surprise, with the goal of operating 150 beds within 18 months. The first homes should be available in November or December of this year.

To really stop the cycle of abuse, Family Renewal Center is going to its source with a program designed to treat the abuser. The 12-week small group program designed to get to the root of the control problem that is a hallmark of abusers will be conducted in Phoenix.
