: With thumb opening facing right, put next 8 sts from waste yarn on dpn or circ and knit across these
8 sts. CO 3 sts and remove 8 sts on other edge of waste yarn (nearest index finger) and put on needle. Knit across these stitches
and pick up and knit 3 sts from the base of index finger - 22 sts.

Right Mitten Thumb Opening: K 26 sts, thread a tapestry needle and put next 9 sts on waste yarn,
with backwards loop cast on loosely cast on CO 9 sts in pattern and knit rest of row in pattern - 48 sts.
Mitten Thumb: Remove waste yarn and place 9 sts back on larger needles. Knit across these 9 sts,
pick up and knit 1 st at left side of thumb, pick up and knit 9 sts at the cast on edge and pick up and knit 1 st at
left side of thumb - 20 sts total. Join and work Chart B in the round until thumb measures to middle of thumbnail or
about ½”/1.3 cm less than desired total length of thumb. The mittens in the photo measure 2”/5 cm from the base
of the thumb to the thumb shaping.

Toe: Cut yarn, leaving an 18" tail. Kitchener stitch sts from each dpn together.
4-Stitch I-Cord: Using a size 6/4.0mm dpn, cast on 4 stitches. Row 1: K4, do not turn, slide sts to other
end of needle. Repeat Row 1 until desired length. BO.
