Spring Rally 2008
Our Spring Rally was a wonderful success. It was held June 5 through June 8 at the Lawrence
County Fairgrounds in Western Pennsylvania. The highlight was the Amish benefit auction held in New Wilmington,
PA. We had a total of 35 coaches at this rally. It was a friends rally and we had representation from five other brands.
We had 19 Foretravels from our chapter, one from Ohio, two from Indiana, three from Virginia, one from Maryland, one from
West Virginia, two from Florida and one from South Carolina. We were honored to have Foretravel International President and
First Lady, Ed and Alice Purcell (14909), in attendance. We were so pleased and honored to have Foretravel, Inc. send
Terry Nabors to attend our Rally with a personal message from Lyle Reed.
Our Rally Masters, Glenn and Thelma Turner (15907) did a fabulous job organizing the rally and assuring that everything
went perfectly.
John and Nancy Alguire (16241) hosted the Hudson River Ramble 3 at their home in Mechanicville,
NY near Albany. The dates were July 31 through August 3. A great time was had by all. We had 5 coaches from our chapter
(plus John and Nancy) and 5 coaches from other areas. We had good weather, great food and wonderful boat rides on the Hudson
River. The highlight of the weekend came Friday evening in the form of a special present from the Alguires to the attendees.
They had arranged for a private fireworks show in their back yard and it was wonderful. We all enjoyed the beautiful display
with a special twist. That was a sparkling ground display that spelled FORETRAVEL. Very neat. Thanks to Nancy and John for
all their work to plan and run this rally and for their very enjoyable gift.
Fall Rally 2008
Magee's Lobster Bake
Our Fall Rally, held in Warren Rhode Island September 4th to 8th, hostedd by John and Marylou Magee #12363 with the help
of co-hosts and other members. The Magees live two blocks from the park and bringing their coach to the rally they were hit
by a car doing severe damage to the drivers side of their coach but they still did a great job as hosts. We parked on the
soccer field at the recreation center for the first two days until the remnants of hurricane Hannah brought some heavy rain.
To avoid damaging the grass we moved the coaches to the edge of the paved drive within the park. Friday night we enjoyed
a traditional lobster bake at the pavilion. It was done by letting the fire burn down to coals, covering them with seaweed
and then putting the wooden boxes of lobster, clams, vegetables and fish on top and covering the entire pile so the food
was steamed. The caterers set the tables with china and served us steamed clams, a lobster, mesh bag of vegetables, corn
on the cob and quahog stuffing. We admired their method of clearing the tables they had covered with a single piece of white
plastic. A good time was had by all. Nineteen coaches were there with one first timer couple, Frank and Pat Kelleher #12165.
Two coaches had to cancel. The next day Hannah's rain arrived but we still had our steak fry with everyone cooking their
own steak. We are fortunate to have dedicated cooks like Chef Charlie and his crew who did a great job with full breakfasts,
a dinner and hot dogs and hamburgers with fixings on Sunday. Sunday we took a luncheon cruise around Narragansett Bay to
Newport where the sailboats surrounded our boat and were racing near us. Between eating, sightseeing and shopping we found
time to have a business meeting with election of officers. Check the President's page for the minutes and election results
