| Dr. Claude Clarance Heckman D.O. was a general medical practitioner, surgeon and family obstetrician in Seattle, Washingon where he practiced until his death in 1976. Heckman graduated from the Andrew Taylor Still College of Osteopathy and Surgery in 1926. He developed our Myopathic techniques during his 45 years of medical practice. Heckman also conducted extensive research into his method. In the latter years of his practice, he used only the manual Myopathic Musculay Therapy he developed.
He held the positions of both Secretary and President of the King County Osteopathic Society in Seattle, Washington; was Secretary of the Waldo Hospital professional staff as well as Secretary of the Madison Street Hospital professional staff in Seattle, Washington. He founded and directed the Program of Intern Training at the Waldo Hospital in Seattle. Dr. Heckman also has a long list of community service endeavors including teaching Sunday School, Boy Scout Master, Audobon Society officer, etc. The following are excerpts from the writings of Dr. Claude Clarance Heckman D.O. |

This Myopathic Science (facts, logic and demonstration) is the result of experience in over forty years of General Medical, Surgical and Obstetrical Practice in the diagnosis and treatment of nearly 7,000 cases of a wide variety of conditions in men, women and children. This Science is particularly valuable in the prevention of organic, chronic, serious and surgical disease. It does not presume to take the place of drugs, surgery, psychiatry or the various medical specialties.
Most of the injuries and illnesses that people have are not serious. They can be treated just as well or better by a general practitioner than by a specialist. Most of the disease that most people have, most of the time, are not surgical. Most injuries that people have are not fractures, dislocations or ruptured cartilages; they are strained muscles. Most diseases in most organs are inflamations; they are not the more serious conditions like degeneration, hemorrhage, thrombosis, embolism or cancer. The inflammations are caused chiefly by muscle hypertension from strain, which either presses on blood vessels or irritates the nerves which control the blood vessels. The regular medical profession has no regard for this principle in the diagnosis or treatment of disease, yet, it is the most important factor. Most somatic, external rheumatic disease is inflammation in the muscles, joints, nerves, tendons, bursae and bones caused by progressive and residual tension in muscles resulting in congestion, acidosis, fibrosis and inflammation in the muscles. The inflammation in the muscles, or myotosis, which is a myopathic condition, is the primary or first condition and causes the other rheumatic diseases: arthritis, neuritis, tendonitis, bursitis and osteitis. Most visceral or internal disease is inflammation in the organs of the head, neck, chest, abdomen or pelvis. They are caused primarily by spinal muscle tension, congestion and inflammation which irritates spinal and vaso-motor nerves and interferes with blood and nerve supply to various organs depending on the location of hypertension in the spinal column. The inflammation in the spinal muscles is called the Myopathic Spinal Lesion. From a Myopathic standpoint, the Myopathic Spinal Lesion is the chief cause of disease and Myopathic Muscular Treatment is the chief cure. Progressive and residual tension in muscles constitutes functional disease and causes organic disease which consists of :
The four kinds of organic disease are really more a matter of degree than kind and depend largely on the degree of tension and congestion or functional disease. Even infection and allergy depend on tissue resistance, which depends on blood and nerve supply. Functional disease, tension and congestion are best treated by Myopathic Muscular Treatment. The same is true of acute and chronic inflammations. However, if disease has progressed to the three advanced stages of disease, myopathic muscular treatment may not be of much help. Then drugs and surgery may be of use to relieve pain, supply vitamins, hormones, antihistamines, antibiotics, tranquilizers, stimulants, depressants, etc.; or to remove hopelessly diseased tissues or organs, or attempt to reconstruct hopelessly deformed organs. Myopathic Muscular Treatment is very useful in the treatment of the most common diseases of the entire body. It is useful in people of any age - young or old. It is useful in both men and women. Everybody needs Myopathic Muscular Therapy to relieve the residual tension in all the muscles, particularly the spinal muscles, when the tension that resides in muscles is not relieved by rest. Many people have had thorough examinations by the best physicians, and the doctor often says: "I cannot find a thing wrong with you". He means that there is not evidence of organic disease. However, the patient often replies: "But doctor, I DO NOT FEEL GOOD!". In these cases, and they are very common, the patient is suffering from hypertension and congestion in various muscles or actual acute and chronic inflammation in various organs that are not evident in laboratory tests and x-rays. These are cases that urgently need Myopathic Muscular Therapy to relieve the hypertension and congestion in muscles and restore a normal blood and nerve supply to the entire body. Many patients exclaim enthusiatically during a treatment: "This is just what I have been feeling the need of and I did not realize what the trouble was". |
