Here are answers to some of our patients most frequently asked questions:

Do you provide eye exams and treat eye infections and diseases?

Yes. Dr. Hejny and Dr. Schwichtenberg are both diagnostically and therapeutically certified to diagnose and treat eye diseases. They both provide dilated retinal examinations, complete with digital photo documentation. They also treat eye infections and write prescriptions for whatever medication your particular problem requires. They also prescribe specialty devices for the partially sighted and low vision patients.

How do your prices compare to other offices in Johnson City?

We are confident you will be very pleased. We strive to be the best value in town. We offer competitive pricing on most simple lens styles and basic frames typically found in area "chain stores". We also carry products and services you can only obtain through our office. While we are proud to offer these specialty products and services to you, these items may cost a little more. Let us know what you are looking for or needing and our doctors will be happy to recommend products or services that will suit your needs. We are happy to go over our pricing and any costs you may incur prior to placing your order.

Can I get Laser Refractive Surgery through your office?

Absolutely. Dr. Hejny and Dr. Schwichtenberg are both proud TLC laser affiliates. Dr. Schwichtenberg has served on the Quality Assurance and Improvement committee for the Tri-Cities Laser Center for several years.

I have vision insurance, will I still have to pay additional out-of-pocket money?

Probably. Most vision plans are designed to provide a basic exam and a basic pair of eyeglasses or contact lenses. You will be responsible for whatever your copay expenses are and any noncovered items or products that exceed the allowances spelled out in your policy. We will be happy to get preauthorizations for all products you need and let you know what your financial responsibility will be prior to placing your order.

Do you offer evening or weekend appointments so I won't have to take time off from work to come see you?

Yes, we are one of the very few office in town that stays open each evening until 6:00pm so you can pick up your contact or eyeglasses on your way home from work. We also do not close our office over the lunch hour like many of our competitors. We also offer appointments every other Saturday from 9:00am to 1:00pm to serve you better.

What if I need my eyeglasses today?

Shouldn't be a problem. We have our own in-office lab and a licensed optician on duty every day to serve you. If any other office in town can make your eyeglasses the same day, we probably can too. To be completely honest, most "one hour" places can't really make your bifocal or progressive lenses in an hour. They advertise this service with the disclaimer that it only covers single vision lenses. The same is true in our office. The difference is we don't advertise this capabilty to wrongly dupe you into trying our service. Most of the time we can repair your old glasses that will get you through until your new eyeglasses arrive. Bring us your challenge and we are confident we can supply you with a workable solution to your emergency.

Does your office provide specialty services or products?

Yes, each and every day. Whether you need someone to treat your glaucoma, provide laser refractive surgery, get specialty contact lenses or order a prescription telescopic vision aid, you can get it through our office. For over 20 years, I Care Vision Associates has been the office to call when you can't find it and you really need it!

Are most people who come to your office pleased?

We'd like to think so! I Care Vision Associates is continually striving to provide what our patients want and need. We continually survey our patients about their satisfaction level with our goods and services. We have consistently score above a 90% satisfaction rating according to independent surveys conducted by many of the vision plans with which we participate.
