In 1920, developer Jospeh Young had a vision. He pictured
a glorious resort community that was similar to the action-packed beaches of Atlantic City to the north. The Hollywood Beach
Broadwalk was designed and it continues to attract people of all ages and nationalities today. This cement promenade
is 30 feet wide and stretches a distance of 1.5 miles. The heart of the Broadwalk is Johnson Street featuring the Hollywood
Beach theater which is popular for dance events and musical concerts. At the southern end of the strip you'll find the baby-pink
colored Ocean Walk Mall which is the home to a variety of shops, eateries, video arcades and bars and is across the street
to Windwood Seas.
To the north, visitors will find the 53 acre North Beach Park which
is filled with native South Florida foliage such as beach crotan, railroad vine, sea oats and stinging nettle. While at the
park, be sure to spend some time at the turtle hatchery -- the kids will love it. The carnival like charm of the Broadwalk
is present throughout the day and the evening and is a popular spot for joggers, diners, cyclists and in-line skaters.
During Summer 2006 the City is currently renovating the Broadwalk. Gone is the old cement path....now we have beautiful new
pavers, a new bike bath, new lighting, seawall and new landscaping.
