2008 Show

Free Carving

No, we won’t be giving away carvings for free.  In the heat of preparing for our show, no one signed up to lead a project for our March meeting, so we’ll just have an open carving.  Bring along a piece you’d like to work on and a sharp knife Thursday, March 13th .  We’ll have the full show report and pictures to boot from John Wittenback.  Our regular open carving will be held 27 March.

Don Mertz led us last month in carving the human face and eye.  Folks walked away with a study stick, and Don had numerous examples of facial carvings in various styles to examine.  Please tell Don thanks for the great job he did.

At this time we have no project scheduled for our April meeting.  Please contact Lowell if you can help with a small project.

Thanks for a Great Show

Our 2008 show was a great success, due to the many club members who pitched in and helped with all the many tasks necessary to make the show run.  Give a club member a pat on the back the next time you see one.  Final numbers and show winners are not in yet, but should be available at our March meeting.  A representative from our beneficiary organization, Make-a-Wish, was there to see the show and was truly impressed.  He’ll be at our April meeting to receive the check from our show proceeds.

Our 2009 show is scheduled for 7-8 March.

Members Honored at Banquet

Jim Orem, Rich Baginski, Hershal Borders and Greg Stephens were recognized for many years of outstanding support to our show at our Saturday evening banquet.  Each received a certificate of appreciation and the gratitude of everyone there.  Please remember to thank these folks again for giving so generously of their time.

Thanks to the generosity of members and exhibitors, we had enough doorprizes for the banquet and hourly show give-aways.  Our banquet was filled again with 60-plus attendees who enjoyed great food and a good time.

Club members really knocked themselves out selling program ads for this show.  Proceeds from advertising sales were nearly $900.

Falin and Shinlever Leave Carvings and Laughs

Seminar instructors Gary Falin and Wayne Shinlever left a wake of finished carvings and amused laughs after a great three-day seminar.  Every participant left with a finished carving, and some folks managed to complete two.  Gary and Wayne had everyone laughing from beginning to end as they dispensed humor along with carving know-how.

We’re Looking for a Few Good Men and Women.

April is coming soon, and with that comes our annual elections.  Being a club officer is a great way to meet folks and have a hand in shaping what our club is and does.  We’ve always had great input from folks on all projects, so it’s really not a great burden.  Please consider running for office this April.

Who Should We Sponsor?

We had a great deal of discussion this past fall about who the charitable beneficiary of our show proceeds should be.  We agreed to pick Make-a-Wish this year and form a committee to do a more in-depth study to determine our beneficiary for our 2009 show.  If you have some ideas and would like to be on the committee, please see Lowell.
