Moreno Valley Trekkers Minutes

The Trekkers meeting was held Tuesday, September 27, 2011 , at the Ritchie-Slater Winery in Black Lake .

Larry Peckham, President, began the meeting by welcoming everyone and talking about the boxes of archives, memorabilia, maps, etc., that were available for everyone to go through before and during dinner to choose what they would like before they were discarded.

The group enjoyed a potluck dinner and then the meeting officially began.

Larry introduced Cheryl Mason who told about the Trekkers shirts that were available for purchase.  The menís shirts are Polo-style and the ladiesí are without collars.  They are $20.00 each.

He also mentioned that Traci is collecting dues tonight if anyone needs to renew their membership.  It is $10.00 per person.

Larry thanked the winery and Glenn and Marcia Wiederstein for hosting the meeting.

Announcements:

There will be no more meetings until the Christmas party.  Diane Mereness said that the Roasted Clove will host the party on Tuesday, December 13.  It will be a three-course meal and will cost $30.00 per person, which includes tax and tip.  More information will be sent at a later date.

Moreno Valley Hiking books are available for purchase.  The cost is $8.00 for members.  Longtime Trekker Kathy Kalen would sign the purchaserís book, if requested.

This winter the cross-country skiing will be held at the Angel Fire Resort Golf Course.  Sign-ups will take place at the golf shop and they are looking for a part-time person to be in charge of that.

A rumor that Tom Bowles of the Roasted Clove is leaving was quelled.  He is staying in Angel Fire.  Larry said that maybe a note should go to all members reminding them of the Christmas Party details when the time is closer.

Larry introduced Elizabeth Fahringer who talked to the group about Pickleball and how it was a great way to stay fit for skiing during the winter months.  It is played on a badminton court with two people on each side.  A demonstration of the game will take place at the Community Center in Angel Fire Thursday evening (September 29th) from 6-7 p.m. and Friday morning (September 30th) from 11 a.m.-noon.  Rackets will be available.  Stephanie Smith is the person in charge.

There will be three more hikes before the end of the season.  They are all oriented around the fall colors.  The first one is Wednesday, September 28 Ė the O.K. Loop; Saturday, October 1, the Santa Barbara hike; and Saturday, October 8, the New Mexico/Colorado Border hike.

After reminding everyone to look through the archives, the meeting was adjourned by Larry.

Respectfully submitted,

Marcia Wiederstein
