Wilson Combat 22LR Conversion Kit

The Wilson Combat 22LR Conversion Kit is really the Jonathan Ciener .22LR kit with a few modifications. The differences are; Wilson high visability sights, and front cocking serrations. I have found that these two features are worth the seventy dollars or so difference between the Wilson and the Ciener units.

The Conversion kit is made to take the place of a standard M1911 slide. The Kit slides down the rails and is held in place by the slide release. The kit has no bushing, the spring and guide rod are held in place inside of the unit. It fit right on to my Colt, with no modifications necessary.

The kit comes standard with one ten round magazine. The magazine has a glued on basepad that came off almost instantly. The magazine is very sturdy and strong. Loading the magazine was easy, but it is sad to see the wasted magazine space just because Washington does not trust us with more than ten rounds.

Shooting the unit was a joy. I loved the sight picture that the Wilson sights presented. It is similar to the BO MARS on my .45 slide. I shot very well with the unit and I was pleased with the results. Round for round, I did much better with the .22 unit. This suprised me, I had not expected a drop in unit to shoot as well as it did.

The unit does not really need to be cleaned deeply. Taking the unit apart is kinda tough. I found that a thin rigid Formica Sample to be the perfect tool for dissembly. The guide rod is pushed forward until the bottom is seen. I use the Formica sample to hold the compressed spring back while I remove the barrel. Then the spring is relaxed and the rod and spring removed. Installation is the opposite. I do not take my unit apart often, about every brick of .22's or so. Of course I wipe it down and remove surface grit and soot from the unit.

I think that the Wilson unit is a good buy for anyone who wants to shoot their carry gun more than their ammunition budget allows. After you get over the inital cost, you will see savings accrue rather quickly. Two thumbs up.
