When I first started writing these articles I was concerned I would come across as someone I am not; that I may be perceived as someone playing the teacher when in fact, I am still a student. Allow me to state the mission of these articles.
In the past year I have decided to become a serious student of the handgun and of self-defense/handgun tactics. I have taken some shooting and tactics classes with more on the horizion. I have started traveling the country shooting matches and have had the opportunity to meet and sometimes shoot with many of the great shooters and people who have been there, done that. I have learned a lot from this and wanted to have a forum to publish it. My articles are not about me shouting "look how smart I am" but are instead a journal of my apprenticeship in the Shottist's art.
What I have presented here is solid, useful information that is worth reading and trying out. I believe what I have said here can be useful for the new shooter and those seeking to learn more about the art of the handgun. I hope the information and format is good enough that knowledgable and experienced shooters find some value here as well.
I have also included tips for new practical pistol shooters. When I first started doing this two years ago the only information for new shooters was on the USPSA web page. It was good but I wish I had more information before starting shooting. IDPA and USPSA clubs make it easy for new shooters, they are kind and full of guidance. But you will enjoy yourself if you are better prepared.
As I learn and develop my skills I expect to change direction and maybe even contradict myself. These changes are to be expected as this is what happens when one keeps an open mind and experiments with the new- even if he goes back to the old. It will be a fun and interesting journey and one I plan to write about from time to time.
