Unfaithful Hound
Fools. They know I am tai-youkai. They forget I am
inu-youkai, too.
,
Inuyoukai of course have no pack loyalty, no need to nuture
and protect the pack. The Inu no Taisho, Clan Alpha of the
Snow Dogs, and pack leader of my remaining family are
especially lax in such responsibilities. And inuyoukai bear
separation from their packs so well, after all.
I catch no scent of our ancestors and our home when
InuYasha and I meet. No faintest, lingering milky warmth of
his puppyhood lingers in his scent. It brings no memories
of home and safety and love. It does not make me feel a
need to guard him, no impulse to sniff his neck, bring him
fresh kill, caress his head until he sleeps. I do not yearn
to have my own blood pack surrounding me once more. I fight
no battles within myself to present an uncaring face to the
world.
After all, InuYasha is not important, just Prince of the
West and the heir to Mushashi. He’s so worthless no one
plays him for a pawn in the game of territory.
Thus my heir is not worth threatening, because I do not act
as the Dogs’ Leader. My despised brother is not a target
for the scheming, betrayals, and backstabbing of demon
politics, because I do not act as the leader of the clan
and pack. The true extent of my power is unrevealed.
I am such an unfaithful hound.
