The Whale Who Wanted to Sing at the Met segment only where Nelson provides ALL of the human voices. Much of the high tenor and, of course, the soprano, is played with electronically. But most of it is him a naturelle. Tres bel. I do believe that during the Mephistopheles segment, the bass is not doctored (Nelson Eddy sang multiple bass parts pre-film in opera). I heard Nelson sing a similar note in "Rosalie". Note that "Make Mine Music" was a collection of "musical" shorts like "Fantasia" (but with popular music) and "Melody Time". Later, the whale segment was released alone as"Willie the Operatic Whale". Naturally, because I'm a fanatic, I have both, but I really like this segment, by far, the best in "Make Mine Music," though I think the rest of the film is undervalued. Several are entertaining and still breaking animation ground. They haven't released it commercially, but it comes out on Disney every so often. In many ways, I look on Willie's segment as the essence of Nelson Eddy's ability to laugh at himself and sing--could he sing.**** MUST SEE
