Nelson Eddy, Jeanette MacDonald and a couple other well-known character actors who I don't really know except through Nelson Eddy films--so I can't remember their names. Very silly premise that looks for a little while like it might be cute any way, but ends up mostly being stupid. However, the party scene at the beginning ("Tira-Lira-La") is quite entertaining. Eddy's character is not as bright as usual and is rather too self-absorbed and melodramatic to be consistently charming. Jeanette is, frankly, grating as an angel, but there are cute moments all through the film, either as part of the dream stuff or Eddy making fun of himself. Except for "Tira-Lira-La", there isn't a song I care for in the entire film. I have read that the overzealous censors tore this movie to pieces. The movie is more disappointing because I think it could have been cute if handled somewhat differently. My husband and another male friend liked it, so I might be too critical. And I do love Nelson in his "costume" and, always, in tails.**
