Plate Tectonics

Plate tectonics is the theory that states that the crust of the Earth is made up of pieces, called plates, which are in motion. These plates make up the Lithosphere which float on the Asthenosphere layer - molten denser material. The plates are kept in motion by the asthenosphere material rising and falling through the process of convection with the heat being supplied by the Earth's core.
