This page is for incremental builds of the upcoming v0.9.5 release. Only the most recent build will be available for download.
Download the latest v0.9.5 beta: Utopia_095b20031113.zip (Build 20031113; 3.11 Mb)
You must un-install
any previous version before installing the new one. You may
receive a message say that not all the components could be removed.
That's okay. The file containing your settings will remain, plus any
cache notes you've made. All other files should be removed. By
retaining the settings file, the new version will be able to work as
soon as you install it.
What's New in Build 20031113:
Automatic zip file processing. If you have your GPX data emailed as a zip file, there's no need to run WinZip (or whatever zip utility you use) prior to opening the file in Utopia. Now, Utopia will unzip the data to a temporary file, read in the information, then clear the temporary file from your system. Your zip file remains unchanged. Note that the zip file must have a “.zip” extension. Like the other file types that Utopia handles, instead of going through the File menu to open a file, you can just drop the zip file on the Utopia shortcut icon, or directly onto the Utopia main window, if it's already running.
Added option to use the geocaching.com map display. There are no additional options available with this map type. The geocaching.com map has fewer interactive features than the other street maps, but lets you see what other caches are in the vicinity. If you're logged into geocaching.com, you'll have more options available to you from the map display.
Spiffy new “About” display. This comes up as a splash screen only the first time the program is run. After that, you can access from the Help menu.
Externalized the cache log identifiers. Basically, this means that if a new log response is added at geocaching.com (as recently happened with webcam caches), the program can handle it by simply having an updated App.ini file installed, rather than requiring a software change.
Fixed a minor sorting
bug. If you had a mix of GPX and LOC data, and had sorted by Date,
the caches with an LOC source might be intermixed with the GPX data.
The fix now sorts them correctly, as if they had a date of
00/00/0000. This will put them at either the top or bottom of a
date-sorted list, depending on if the sequence is ascending or
decending.
What's New in Build 20031031:
Added a new CSV field – Cache URL. This will return the geocaching.com URL for a cache. This should make it easier for those who want to export Streets & Trips “pushpin” files, with embedded URL data. The URL will be in “normal” mode (i.e., standard logs, etc.). If you want to customize the URL, use a custom CSV field along with the new %P% code (below).
Added new Replacement Code - %P%. This code will resolve to the URL of the cache page on geocaching.com.
Added new Replacement Code - %G%. This returns either a “G” for geocaches, or a “B” for benchmarks. Since benchmarks use a different waypoint naming scheme than geocaches, this will help to ensure uniqueness when the %H% code is used.
Fixed a bug in the 1-character Terrain and Difficulty codes. Previously, if the data came from a LOC file (which has no Terrain / Difficulty info), it would calculate a value of -1. This has been fixed to resolve these values as zeros.
Added feedback in the status bar to indicate how many waypoints were processed, how many were filtered out, and how many were rejected as duplicates.
What's New in Build 20031030:
Added support for benchmark files. Benchmark entries will have a default type of “Bnch”. You cannot filter by this type. It is simply informational. Benchmark waypoint coordinates use the NAD27 datum, rather then the geocaching standard WGS84 datum. In most cases the difference is matter of just a few feet. However, if you want the best possible accuracy, upload benchmarks separately, and set your GPS and G7ToWin to use NAD27 first (in G7ToWin, double-click on NAD27-Central from the Datum menu). Remember to switch them both back to WGS84 after the upload is complete.
The
Ignore list now works with LOC files. Not a bug fix, but a change in
design thought.
Known Issues With This Build
Not an issue with Utopia, but with G7ToWin. Some newer Garmin units (GPS72, for example) have a waypoint option that determines if the waypoint is displayed on the unit's map screen. When waypoints are transmitted to the unit, this option is not being turned on by default, so the waypoints aren't visible on the map display. I'm working with the G7ToWin author to resolve this. As a work-around, you can export your waypoints to EasyGPS, and upload via that program.
Web-cam caches that you have logged may not indicate that you have logged them. This is not a Utopia bug, but an error in the GPX file generated by geocaching.com.
