We are collecting empty juice bags during lunch time in the cafeteria.  There is a marked garbage can to place them into.  Some classes are also collecting them during snack time in their classrooms.  Children can help by drinking all of the juice in the bag and removing the straw and plastic straw wrapper.
Before shipping to Terracycle, each bag must have the inside bottom seam slit. Then they are rinsed out with water and allowed to dry.  When they are dry, they are counted into packs of 25 bags.  Terracycle sends four UPS mailers at a time; 100 bags may be shipped in each mailer.  Terracycle will give Maple Hill 2 cents for each Capri Sun bag. They sew the bags into cool tote bags and pencil bags.  For more info check out their web site.

Preventing the Flu: Good Health Habits Can Help Stop Germs

Fact Sheet

  Avoid close contact.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.

Stay home when you are sick.

Stay home from work, school, and errands when you are sick. Keep sick children at home.  You will help prevent others from catching the illness.

  Cover your mouth and nose.

Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

  Wash your hands often.

Washing your hands and the hands of your children often will help protect you from germs.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.

  Practice other good health habits.

Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.

A great big THANK YOU to all who attended our Open House & PTO’s Ice Cream Social. Overall responses to our survey were very positive regarding combining both events. We received many wonderful suggestions for ways to make next year’s events even better and appreciate your input!

During the Month of September, 114 Bees were awarded! Keep up the good work. Remember to: Be peaceful, be cooperative, be respectful, be safe and be kind!  Especially in the Bee Hive Cafe and at the Buzz Stop!

Arrival Times

Just a reminder that students should not be dropped off at school prior to 8:35 AM. There is no supervision before this time. Students dropped off at 8:35 should be escorted to the front lobby to wait with the teacher on duty. After 8:45 AM, students should go directly to classrooms.

Our school day begins promptly at 8:55 AM, so please try to be on time!

Dismissal Policy

For the safety and security of all students, we ask that a note be sent in whenever your child(ren) will be picked up from school. If they will be picked up on certain days on a regular basis, one note for the entire year is sufficient. If you need to pick up your child(ren) unexpectedly, please call the office prior to 3:00 PM. All students must be signed out before leaving the building.

Parents requesting dismissal before the normal end of the school day (3:20) must make a written request, come into the school office to pick up the student, and sign the student out per Board Policy 5113.2.

Perfect Attendance Awards

Due to a change in our school policy, Maple Hill School will no longer be issuing awards in June to students who achieve perfect attendance. Individual classroom teachers have the option of acknowledging this achievement within their classrooms.

JCJ Architecture will be in the district on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at 4:00 p.m. to meet with district employees to discuss and hear your ideas on future facilities needs in the district, particularly in the area of technology. Peter Lippman from JCJ will describe emerging trends in the applications of

digital technology in school buildings.  This will be an informal, open, hour-long forum for the purpose of evaluating our needs as they put together a 10-year facilities usage plan on how to best use our schools.

The Superintendent would especially like to invite all staff members, parents, and others who have interests in the expansion of instructional technology.  If you would like to attend, please call Jan Myers at 720-5265. Location will be announced at a later date.

Open House/Early Dismissal:

Wednesday, September 17th. Dismissal at 1:00 PM. Lunch will be served.

A separate notice will be sent home with the details.

An Ice Cream Social, sponsored by our PTO, will be held immediately following our Open House. We hope you can attend!

Fashion Alert!

Safety First!

Flip-flops and backless shoes are a safety hazard and are not to be worn to school.

Due to fluctuating temperatures, students should wear jackets to school each day. If necessary, they will borrow a jacket from the nurses’ office if available.

Spaghetti strap shirts and short shorts are not appropriate attire for school.

Remember the 5 Be’s!

Be Cooperative

Be Respectful

Be Peaceful

Be Kind

Be Safe

Due to our new security system, all visitors must be buzzed in to the building by the office. Please remind your children that if they are passing by the front doors they should not open them for ANYONE, even if they recognize the visitor.
