Bio
Born in
the midwest, now working out of Austin, TX, O'Connell has
performed in every imaginable venue and shared the stage with a wide
range of performers, from Dave Attel to Dolly Parton. He's a veteran
touring comic and has worked The Improv in Hollywood, the Comedy Cafe
in London and hundreds of clubs in between.
Blending
charm and irreverence, "JohnO" presents his
social and political views in a thought-provoking manner. His brutal
honesty about life, its finer aspects and dirty little secrets, makes
audiences roar. A consummate professional, O'Connell can read an
audience and take them to the brink without going overboard, making him
the perfect entertainer for any event.
John is
also an original member of the "Texas Hill Country Writer's
Association," a group of writers formed and finaced by the Blue Collar
Comedy Tour's Ron "Tater Salad" White. The group collaborates on many
writing projects including, but not limited to, standup material for
Ron and the other members of the T.H.C. writer's group.
O'Connell also is frequently the opening act for White on his
national tours.
In
addition to performing comedy, John is also pursuing
an acting and filmmaking career. He's landed work on several television
shows including NBC's critically acclaimed "Freaks and Geeks." He had a
role in the independent feature "Seeking the Cafe Bob" which aired on
the Sundance Channel. He is currently in production on the independent
film "Pineapple" which he co-wrote and stars in. His animated short
"Jesus Shaves" recently premiered at Austin's Alamo Draughthouse
Theater.
O'Connell is also an avid runner, and
has run several
marathons including the 2004 Boston Marathon. But don't let that fool
you, he loves to party and is a firm believer in living life to the
fullest.
