This past harvest - 2008 - was actually a far more difficult harvest than that of 2007, but for different reasons. The weather has been strange to say the least. All of our white wine fruit comes from the Los Olivos-Santa Inez area of Santa Barbara County . Much - all - of the fruit froze this year! (So much for Global Warming!). Consequently we may be unable to make Viognier or Sauvignon blanc this year - at least with the fruit we have come to depend on for our wines. De Angelis Wines will keep you posted as the season progresses. As it turns out we were unable to obtain the fruit we desired, and decided not to make any wine for ourselves in 2007. We did manage to make approximately 10,130 cases for others however, so at least we stayed in practice!
On a more positive note, we have bottled all of our 2007 white wines: Sauvignon Blanc (70 cases), Viognier (56 Cases) and Roussanne (70 cases), and we are pleased to announce that all the wines are very, very good. That may sound self serving, but they are what they are! Our white wines, with the exception of the Viognier, will be released in Spring - 2009. The Viognier will be released on January 31, 2009. We already have orders for 6 cases. Considering our library program there are approximately 45 cases of this wine available for sale.
The Reds are so intense that one cannot even see through them unless held up to a strong light source. The extraction was great, and the wines are almost drinkable now. We bottled the Pinot Noir and the Syrah/Grenache blend in July of 2007. These wines will not be released formally until Fall of 2009. We will sell them from this site beginning in February, 2009
Prices for all currently available wines can be found on the following pages of this web site - White Wines and Red Wines. If interested in ordering wines, please do so soon, as we have very few cases left! If interested in the 2007 wines, we are selling any three cases at a 15% discount.
In our next What's New column, we will be presenting a People's Rating System. These ratings will be done on a 1 to 10 scale, and will be opinions of people just like you rather than by the designated gods of wine. (Yes I am referring to Robert Parker and his ilk.) De Angelis Wines does not send its wines to Parker or anyone to be approved. We count on the opinions of those who purchase and drink our wine to let us know how they like it. We will not divulge names other than to say something like "I give the 2006 De Angelis Pinot Noir a 9.2 on the rating scale. It's great". - Sean W. If you have an opinion sent ti to us, and we will try to publish it here.
Take Care!
Jerry
