Hustler. Fusa puttin' lush jungle beats into the garage mix.

The
54nude Honeys.
Paul Wheeler
got the low down on the Honeys....Yuri the singer and bassist Vive
will be living in NYC, while guitarist Kotome, and the drummer will
be staying in Tokyo. The good news is they will be playing shows in
both cities.
You can read
reviews of the Japanese bands that played at the Japunks Jamboree
at Paul Wheeler's Rock of Japan.

Understanding
the Noh Mask Effect
Right on cue,
cloudcuckooland
points you to The
Naked Face, a wonderful article on expressions. It was an
inspiration to start this blog actually. Female bass players, faces,
and noodles....those are the ideas behind Oni Blogger. I'm scheming
up a special funny noodle dish, hopefully I can get all the cooks
in the kitchen.

also recommended.
Daisy

cloudcuckooland
notes an article on Thomas Mapfumo. You can find out more about Mr.
Mapfumo at his record label, anonymousweb.com.
The Zimbabwe
music guide is also recommended for it's discerning reviews and
breadth of artist to investigate. Mr. Oni can recommend either of
the following compilations;
Shumba:
Vital Hits of Zimbabwe, 1st pick for the wonderful collection
of songs.
Chimurenga
Forever, Nice mastering of important tracks, but missing a
couple gems that are included on Shumba.
Everyday that
Mr. Mapfumo is unable to return is a note of sadness amongst Mugabe's
cacophony of tragedy. For the sake of Zimbabwe I hope Thomas Mapfumo
will be singing in Harare soon.
As previously
noted, Stern's is an excellent
place to explore world music and purchase CD's.

Simon Bartz
has an interesting article on Thee
50's High teens. It has many insights on trends in pop culture
and cute anecdotes about the Japanese rock scene. However, he goes
too far and publishes an intimate note. It is unforgivable to publish
a woman's expression of vulnerability . Stop getting so drunk Bartz.
To aid in
your suffering Bartz,
Fighto! is uploading Love's
She Comes in Colors!
"Whoa-oh-oh-oh,
my love she comes in colors
You can tell her from the clothes she wears"
Thee 50's
High teens WEB SITE
P-Vine records has two song samples.
Bartz has a nice site
though, where I learned that the 54 Nude Honeys will be moving to
NYC. Who would have guessed that NYC's apartment prices would lead
to brain drain. They play at CBGB on Saturday, May 22nd, with some
fun bands. Rock of Japan
lists them with links. (Simon how can I issue a proper challenge if
your e-mail is down?)

Here
are suggested places to buy Japanese CDs. I'm not anti-Amazon
but I must tell you that the prices for the imported/special orders
are high. They are a great source for domestic and used CD's but
please take a look around, and don't forget to consider shipping.
Yes
Asia I'd check here first. Large stock, good pricing and domestic
shipping rates. They keep getting better as time goes on.
cd
japan A large retailer based in Japan. I've had good results
with them. Lately they have cut back on customer service, which
can leave one wondering when something will show up. Not a problem
unless there is a problem.
annyoung.com
Mostly Korean, but they are starting to stock mainstream J-pop.
They have been a pleasure to deal with. Free shipping was great.
You can
order directly from these labels.
Asian
Man Records Some releases of interest...Polysics.
Sister/Benten
The label of great Japanese girl bands. Lots of info and bands to
check out. Ordering is through email/money order.

I
watched Seagull Screaming Kiss Her Kiss Her's new DVD release
last week. As the saying goes, I've fallen in love all over again.
It is their earlier Motorhead and Drive Video with an additional
five songs (in bold below). The newer songs continue the charm of
MDV but with some production gems from Emiko Nakayama. Simple but
very clever, and captivating. As a friend discovered when she stopped
by on her way to work; getting to work late sucks. I point you to
cd
japan to purchase it, since I know it is an all region version.
Yesasia is listing it as region 2 (?). I sent an e-mail asking them
to check on it.
Crashed
On ! Forever Seagulls!
1. No Star 2. No Telephone 3. Sentimental Journey 4. Lullaby 5.
Evolution 6. [Motorhead And Drive Video] Coma 7. Double Life 8.
Down To Mexico 9. Rhythm Voice 10. Slow Start 11. Living On The Same
Planet 12. Don't Cry My Bunny 13. Sister Sister 14. Count 0 Number
1 15. Drive A Car 16. Seventeen 17. School Lunch
SSKHKH, are
no longer together, but the music does continue. Please read Rock
of Japan's, SSKHKH interview,
CD reviews, and updates .
Aiha
Higurashi, Seagull's erstwhile singer/ guitar player debuted her
full-length CD Born Beautiful in January.

Fighto!
News
We will keep swapping
songs around for awhile and adding some samples from other genres.
Not to end up with a big eclectic mess (hopefully) but to preview
some programing we would like to schedule. Why? Because as the Anubian
Lights would say "it's
a groovy world." (Snoozy, I don't know if the world is ready
to face its horrific past but feel free to launch Secret
Weapon Nimoy, I ...I just can't do it).

The world
is going to Hell but we can look forward to talking
garbage cans. Are we so hopeless that even when we are shown the
future, we learn nothing?
There is a joke in there about Talkie Toaster's white trash relations
but it escapes me at the moment. I'm so simple, sometimes.

We have a winner!
pkey who
has the Challenging
Sushi station at Live365 correctly identified WhiteBerry's Natsu
Matsuri as the winning track. Natsu Matsuri translates
as Summer Festival and that is where the goldfish scooping (Kingyo
Tsukui's) game is played.
Challenging
Sushi listeners can look forward to hearing eX-Girl soon!
The song that
it wasn't was the Runaway's "Cherry Bomb" performed by O*N*T*J.
I'll be updating with some more information soon.

The Pappys
were popular at the station today. I can't wait to see their stats
tomorrow!. All of their
CD's are highly recommended. But you will need to search them
out.
"Because
this is fun:
the antithesis of staying at home and listening to Radiohead."
