Kazu
Kibuishi's, Bolt City, has
several comics to check out. The charming Copper
has a new page today, and Clive
and Cabbage have a recent update. The interviews and links are
also recommended.
Daisy
Cutter will be published in August. Tell your friends and local
comic retailers.
cloudcuckooland
notes an article on Thomas Mapfumo. You can find out more about Mr.
Mapfumo at his record label, anonymousweb.com.
The Zimbabwe
music guide is also recommended for it's discerning reviews and
breadth of artist to investigate. Mr. Oni can recommend either of
the following compilations;
Shumba:
Vital Hits of Zimbabwe, 1st pick for the wonderful collection
of songs.
Chimurenga
Forever, Nice mastering of important tracks, but missing a
couple gems that are included on Shumba.
Everyday that
Mr. Mapfumo is unable to return is a note of sadness amongst Mugabe's
cacophony of tragedy. For the sake of Zimbabwe I hope Thomas Mapfumo
will be singing in Harare soon.
As previously
noted, Stern's is an excellent
place to explore world music and purchase CD's.
Simon Bartz
has an interesting article on Thee
50's High teens. It has many insights on trends in pop culture
and cute anecdotes about the Japanese rock scene. However, he goes
too far and publishes an intimate note. It is unforgivable to publish
a woman's expression of vulnerability . Stop getting so drunk Bartz.
To aid in
your suffering Bartz, Fighto! is uploading Love's
She Comes in Colors!
"Whoa-oh-oh-oh,
my love she comes in colors
You can tell her from the clothes she wears"
Bartz has a nice site
though, where I learned that the 54 Nude Honeys will be moving to
NYC. Who would have guessed that NYC's apartment prices would lead
to brain drain. They play at CBGB on Saturday, May 22nd, with some
fun bands. Rock of Japan
lists them with links. (Simon how can I issue a proper challenge if
your e-mail is down?)

Top Ten Reasons
to date a Fighto!
1. Desserts,
desserts, desserts!
2. We cherish intimate notes.
3. We are good providers, we provide a laugh a minute!
4. We will change your guitar strings, and clean your pots.
5. Never go to bed mad. (We got rid of the couch).
6. Your perversions are kept secret (exhibitionist warrant exception).
7. We pick up our own beer and cigarettes (clothes stay on the floor).
8. DJ Snoozy cooks a mean dinner.
9. Mr. Oni has strong back and van.
10. We never forget that desserts come first.
Here
are suggested places to buy Japanese CDs. I'm not anti-Amazon
but I must tell you that the prices for the imported/special orders
are high. They are a great source for domestic and used CD's but
please take a look around, and don't forget to consider shipping.
Yes
Asia I'd check here first. Large stock, good pricing and domestic
shipping rates. They keep getting better as time goes on.
cd
japan A large retailer based in Japan. I've had good results
with them. Lately they have cut back on customer service, which
can leave one wondering when something will show up. Not a problem
unless there is a problem.
annyoung.com
Mostly Korean, but they are starting to stock mainstream J-pop.
They have been a pleasure to deal with. Free shipping was great.
I
watched Seagull Screaming Kiss Her Kiss Her's new DVD release
last week. As the saying goes, I've fallen in love all over again.
It is their earlier Motorhead and Drive Video with an additional
five songs (in bold below). The newer songs continue the charm of
MDV but with some production gems from Emiko Nakayama. Simple but
very clever, and captivating. As a friend discovered when she stopped
by on her way to work; getting to work late sucks. I point you to
cd
japan to purchase it, since I know it is an all region version.
Yesasia is listing it as region 2 (?). I sent an e-mail asking them
to check on it.
Crashed
On ! Forever Seagulls! 1. No Star 2. No Telephone 3. Sentimental Journey 4. Lullaby 5.
Evolution 6. [Motorhead And Drive Video] Coma 7. Double Life 8.
Down To Mexico 9. Rhythm Voice 10. Slow Start 11. Living On The Same
Planet 12. Don't Cry My Bunny 13. Sister Sister 14. Count 0 Number
1 15. Drive A Car 16. Seventeen 17. School Lunch
We will keep swapping
songs around for awhile and adding some samples from other genres.
Not to end up with a big eclectic mess (hopefully) but to preview
some programing we would like to schedule. Why? Because as the Anubian
Lights would say "it's
a groovy world." (Snoozy, I don't know if the world is ready
to face its horrific past but feel free to launch Secret
Weapon Nimoy, I ...I just can't do it).

The world
is going to Hell but we can look forward to talking
garbage cans. Are we so hopeless that even when we are shown the
future, we learn nothing?
There is a joke in there about Talkie Toaster's white trash relations
but it escapes me at the moment. I'm so simple, sometimes.
pkey who
has the Challenging
Sushi station at Live365 correctly identified WhiteBerry's Natsu
Matsuri as the winning track. Natsu Matsuri translates
as Summer Festival and that is where the goldfish scooping (Kingyo
Tsukui's) game is played.
Challenging
Sushi listeners can look forward to hearing eX-Girl soon!
The song that
it wasn't was the Runaway's "Cherry Bomb" performed by O*N*T*J.
I'll be updating with some more information soon.

The Pappys
were popular at the station today. I can't wait to see their stats
tomorrow!. All of their
CD's are highly recommended. But you will need to search them
out.
"Because
this is fun:
the antithesis of staying at home and listening to Radiohead."

I can't post playlists
but I can post some of the listeners favorite artist.
I never thought
I would see a most popular artist list like that! It may be gathered
from a small amount of data but I wouldn't refer to it as sampling
error :) The music, ideas and attitudes of those bands are as different
as their geographical origins, cool. Keep looking and listening...
and remember that it is the individual, not the celebration that creates
diversity. Drop us an e-mail if you would like us to put together
some Reggae, Remix, or Soundtrack programs we'd love the feedback.
How about letting MC untold millions program a show as a prize for
the stellar performance in the contest? That's not a cruel hoax, is
it?

Ha,
Ha , Ha. You have to do better than that." It has nothing to
do with Pop Music," might be a correct observation but
that doesn't mean it is the correct answer.Hint: Kingyo
Tsukui's scoop is a metaphor for the heart that didn't catch
the koi! Sorry.....back to the program!
It's finally like summer
out there and I'm goin' fishin.'
Be the first
to e-mail Mr. Oni the song on Radio
Fighto's playlist (ummm, you have to listen to the show) that
the above picture refers to and win a copy of eX-Girl's Endangered
Species.
If you have trouble
listening to the station, please make sure your pop-up blocker is
turned off.
Station and e-mail links are to the right.
Important
contest update: 9:30pm, no winner yet!
It was brought to my attention that if one is not using the Live365
player the song titles are not displayed ..... that sucks. I don't
want people to have to install unwanted software in order to participate.
So if you can tell me what song it isn't you can also win.
However there is only one correct answer ......... bwahahahahah. I
know it is possible to figure it out because it took untold millions
under a minute to get it. I will tell you that the answer is not off
site (ie, a third party that I link to), if you have the player and
are searching the site you double your chances. Advantage Fighto!
Also, untold
millions is not eligible for the prize because life is a cruel hoax
and he will receive a disc for pointing out the player flub on my
part. Thanks!
Life is
a cruel hoax update:
I thought we were going to have a winner but several listeners dropped
out right when the song was coming up!!! Tenacity ...Fighto! Fighto!
untold millions
responds with astute observations and/or style or something, anyway
he's still disqualified because life is still a cruel
hoax.
untold millions
has shown the tenacity that demonstrates why he is a world class Chocobo
breeder and has correctly identified the best song for the picture.
Congratulations for winning one contest three times. Would you like
the jewel case, booklet or disc? Wait, multiple entries mean that
you are disqualified! Sorry, but hasn't anyone ever told you life
is a cruel hoax?
Someone please
win this , this is getting too silly.
But no outsourcing
of life's cruel hoaxes
is allowed!
The contest continues
but the Haiku won't!
Haiku hint;
Hidden nameless
love,
are you coy, a runaway,
a fox's summer dream?
I don't dislike
my still-juvenile self who possesses this much resolve
To live
is always to see both ways.
Which is a tolerable thing.
I don't want TV and newspapers to report only sad events.
We've only just embarked on the new journey.
POLYSICS
OR DIE is due out: 2004/05/19and can be pre-ordered.
I believe it is the Best CD that Hiro mentions in the new English
column......
Another thing
that got to me in the US was YOSHINOYA(Japanese beef bowl restaurant)!
We can't have these here in Japan right now....I was so happy when
I ate it TWICE!!!! The BEEF in the US is really SOMETHING!! My next
dream (other than playing in the US!) is to be able to finish a
T-BONE STEAK!! AND to GO TO HOOTERS!
update,
Three out of seven listeners have added Radio Fighto! to their live365
presets!
You can find
out more about the bands at dj Snoozy's band
page.
Thanks for
the mail! The picture rocks! As far as sending money, do yourself
a favor and send it
here.....also we are waiting for the afros, but they will be pink,
so stay tuned in.
Yes, they
need to be thumbnails, but I need to sleep ..... I'll clean this up
tomorrow........screw sleeping Melt
Banana is playing tonight .....later.
