Trick Tools #13: Analog Multimeter
|
Mike Nixon
It is not generally known outside of the powersports industry, but the analog multimeter is far from dead. In many cases, it is a better diagnostic tool than the ever-present digital multimeter, simply because it can perform tests that many digital meters cannot. That is, given two multimeters of equal quality and without added accessories, the analog meter will perform better than its digital counterpart. It will display trends more clearly, and indicate transient inputs more faithfully. The modern digital multimeter must have added to it a diode checking scale, a bar graph, and a peak voltage adapter to do as well, raising its price into well into the $300 range.
