fire.wall.poem
John Runnels
2005
finalist proposal for Fire Station #27 Denver Harbor Houston, Texas

fire.wall.poem is an artistic and poetic perpetuation of the heroic myth and reality of the Fire Fighters
of America for every community.
Following in the Meso-American tradition of pyramidal structures such as the Temple of the Sun and the Moon at Teotihuacan,
fire.wall.poem is a symbolic possibility using color and language.
The blood red and moonlight white "emergency colors" are synthesized symmetrically on the fire station wall with reflective
word "sparks".
911 is embedded in the fire.wall.poem with a dual function. First, it is the essential telephone number for emergency
service. Second, it honors the Fire fighters in the September 11th tragedy in New York City.
