GENERAL INTRODUCTION

PROGRESS REPORTS:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PAGE:

GENERAL INTRODUCTION
This page contains a list of posts which contain "progress reports" about heavy metal chelation.  Most are reports on children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (autism; aspergers; PDD; etc.). A few are about adults (as noted).

I started collecting progress reports because they move me, inspire me, and give me hope: for myself, for these children, and for recovery in general.  Over the first months I began collecting them, I also had time to reflect on the commonly voiced desire for information about the results of chelation.  Statistics are extremely limited.  There are no studies.   But, there are stories:  personal descriptions of personally observed results, as reported by people who where there, and to whom it matters deeply.  Stories contain details of real people that can be very powerful. In this case, the people involved have gone through much personal effort in order to undertake chelation.  The title "love letters" is my personal name for the amazing stories that show up on the list. Reading these stories over the period of many months has lead me to conclude that chelation results in "significant progress" for many children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. To me this is not a theory or a possibility, it is an observable reality, a fact. I observe it through the lens of these stories.  I also like the name "love letters" because it makes it very clear that this is not clinical, objective or unemotional material. This is not a study: it is people writing about their lives, often sharing their joy.

How it goes with chelation is that often the progress is slow and steady, rather than some giant dramatic change all at once. Usually it is a series of smaller changes -- each remarkable -- but cumulatively much more significant.  A common pattern is to see some improvement with each "round" (or course) or chelation treatment, with some mild regressions also along the way.  To greatly oversimplify, it is a "two steps forward, one step back" sort of progress, with ups and downs.... and landing at a HIGHER plateau after the "downs". The posts in for each person are sorted by DATE, with the earliest posts first.  This should help you to follow a given person's story line, if you want to.

I do not claim that these particular posts are "objective" or reflect anything scientific. Quite the contrary: this is about as subjective as it comes. No claims of completeness, fairness, or anything else are made or implied. The criteria for including a message in this list (or for excluding it) are also subjective, and no claims are made about that, either. (Some posts may be missing due to oversights, too.)  For the most part, these posts have been selected BECAUSE they are positive.  This is NOT a representative or statistically average sample.  The information is real, but, like any data, you are responsible for any interpretations you make. Like all information posted on this list, this is not medical advice.  In fact, it is not advice at all.  It is just a list of links to posts on the list.

MANY of the "progress reports" are contained as side notes in a post that is mainly intended as a comment or question about something else.  These posts are part of an on-going conversation about a much larger topic than "progress". This mans that there are often other topics being discussed. The main purpose of the post need not be "to report status" in order for it to be included here. Some of the posts have only a slight mention of positive results, in others it is the main content.  The content need not be exclusively positive. A few are negative reports.  Many posts have a lot of content and commentary that is not about "results". Again, these posts are part of a larger discussion. I have pulled them out of that context to include them here.  Regardless of what else they say, they were selected to be included here because of the content that is about "results".  Inclusion does not in any way imply agreement or disagreement with any commentary that is included.

Best wishes to all who undertake this adventure.  Here are some reports from those who are already somewhere along the way.  I hope they help!

OTHER CHELATION PROGRESS REPORTS (elsewhere on the web)
Here are some progress reports regarding chelation, which are not from posts to the Autism-mercury list:

http://www.healing-arts.org/children/holmes.htm#results  This is a report from Dr. Amy Holmes on the results of chelation in her patients (who are ASD children). Thank you, Dr. Holmes, for sharing your results.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Autism-Mercury/files/ChelationSurveyFeb2001 Results of chelation survey done 2001. Covers agents, protocols, and results. Compiled by  Lyn Redwood. This is a survey of the Autism-Mercury list,  and had about 28 respondents. (Unfortunately, you must be a member of this group in order to view this page.)

http://www.dmpsbackfire.com/default.shtml  Click on "patient reports". This is a site with a collection of reports on extremely negative results from DMPS IV chelation. (IV chelation is considered to be a higher risk form of chelation by some people, including the editor of this page!)

http://www.generationrescue.org/testimonials.php Parent's testimonials about improvements of their children, including their ages. These are on the site Generation Rescue.

PROGRESS REPORTS FROM AMALGAM REPLACEMENT ONLY (no chelation)
Some of these are just too good to leave out!

PUBLICATION NOTES

IF YOU ARE HERE FOR THE FIRST TIME: "READ ME FIRST" ITEMS *****
This page currently (as of June 2002) contains almost 400 links to posts. That is a LOT of material to read. Some posts are more detailed and/or more dramatic than others.  You may be here looking for some idea of "how much" can be expected from chelation.  Or, you may not.  You also might have limited time, and wish to begin with just a few items to read.  In this case, I have selected a small set of items which I would suggest you read first.  These items are marked with five small red stars: *****.  These are particularly compelling reports.  This is not necessarily the same as "the most progress" -- it may just be a more detailed description, or an especially visible (external, noticeable) type of progress. For whatever reason, these reports are especially compelling ones. These red stars ***** indicate these posts, and mean "read me first".

ABOUT THE FORMAT OF THE NOTES ABOUT EACH POST
Here is an example of how a post is listed on this page, with some explanation:

30000 ***** Feb00 Janna Rollens [age: 9] [dx: autism] [school / appetite]

Posts are generally sorted by who the post is FROM, and then (secondarily) by date.  However, there are a number of people on the list who are chelating more than one person -- for example, a parent and a child, or 2 children, etc.  So, in some cases, posts from one person are separated based on who the content is about.

STRANGE TERMS AND ACRONYMS
If you happen to come across some terms here that you don't know, and if you really really really want to understand what the words mean, you'll likely find them here: http://home.earthlink.net/~moriam/Glossary.html.  Of course, the purpose of the stuff in this collection is to share the RESULTS of chelation-- stuff like talking, singing, smiling, understanding more, asking questions, yelling less often.  No special terms there.  The rest is really quite optional.... I just mention this in case it is driving you nuts not knowing what these words mean!

THINGS TO DO WITH THESE POSTS
Read them all (but not all at once!)  Read them again. Read a few to your husband, wife, partner.  Read just one to your best friend.  Read a new one every day and wonder about it.  Read a few to a parent of a child with ASD. Find your "favorite" one, print it and tape it up somewhere you can see it every day.  Share your reactions to them with someone.  Read them when you are doing chelation and it feels hard and boring and way too slow. Dig through and find the ones that make you want to cry or laugh or jump up and down.  Feel thankful.

HOW TO SEARCH ON THIS PAGE
This page includes some information about the age and diagnoses of the children (and adults) listed, in some cases. This information is listed ONLY when the person writing happened to include it. You can look for this information, and you can even search for it. For example, if you want to find every child of age 5 on this page, you can do so quite simply. You can also search for words that might appear under "areas of improvement". For example, if you want to find every item relating to the GFCF diet, or to yeast, you can do that. (Of course, the same words are not used in every description...... so you will SEARCH for both "speech" and "conversation", for example.)

HOW TO SEARCH:

For the record, I do not think that which diagnosis another child has is terribly relevant when thinking about whether chelation might be beneficial (for your child).  I do not.  I think what is relevant is whether your child (or whatever child or adult) is metal toxic. There are children with a very wide range of diagnoses who have benefitted from heavy metal detox.

This is really the End

NOTES WHICH YOU SHOULD KINDLY IGNORE
