A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart,
and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.

My sister, Debbie, is more than a sister. She's a friend and someone I can count on. She is a loving and a caring person who will help others before they even ask for help. She has volunteered to work as a Hospice worker with people who were dying of AIDS. She doesn't think anyone should die alone and some of these people have been abandoned by their families because of their illness.  Recently when we went on a trip together, there was a couple with a young child at the gas station where we stopped. They were trying to get home and had run out of money for gas. They offered to sell some leather to us. Instead my sister gave them money for gas and food and told them to make a gift for someone else with the leather. I find so many qualities in her that remind me of a spirit at work. She listens, she gives strength to those who need it, she shows compassion and is nonjudgmental. She can make a person laugh when they are down and she can bring them up by giving them hope and encouragement. My sister follows her own spiritual path and is willing to share it with others if it will help them find theirs. She is a nature lover and appreciates the beauty around her. When she plays her Indian flute, the sounds that come from it are straight from her heart and are very comforting. My sister has been like an Angel to me. She has given me strength and comfort when I need it. She's always been there for me. As most sisters, we had our share of fights when we were young; but we always remained friends and sisters. She has had tremendous obstacles in her life that she has had to overcome, but she never gave up. I've admired her for how she overcame them and still overcomes them. She shows strength when she needs to and has compassion for others. Although, we live far apart, she can tell when I need help. She has never let me down. I only hope I can be some of the person she is and be able to share it with others the way she does.
