Good Old Tyme Mountain Music

As I traveled around fiddlers conventions in southwest Virgina, I picked up a few fellow vagabonds, and we formed an old time band called the Gap Mountain String Band. US Route 460 enters the Jefferson National Forest north of Blacksburg, VA, and passes between Gap Mountain (our band's namesake) and Sinking Creek Moutain. That's SINKing not STINKing. The creek below the mountain actually does sink into oblivion, right into the underlying limestone. Generally speaking, the creeks have remained quite pristine, barring any cow pastures upsteam.

Gap Mountain String Band The Gap Mountain String Band at Don West's place in West Virginia. I'm standing far left. I haven't asked the others whether or not they want their identification included with mine. Afterall, I am standing all alone in the front row. Grady Largenes, next to me, has since passed away. Start strumming for one of my favorite tunes.
Old time dance group There has been an old time dance group in Blacksburg, VA, since 1980 or so. Here, John calls out steps while Judy, Bill, and Tina supply live music. Go to Page 2, for additional photos of our friends of old time music and dance.
