Rebecca Kuder grew up, frequently barefoot, in Yellow
Springs, Ohio. At age five, she attended the first Rainbow Family Gathering
in the Colorado Rockies. She wrote her first book, The Hole in the
Shirt, when she was seven. Her father mimeographed the book and
they sold copies for thirty-five cents each at the local sidewalk sale.
In high school, college, and afterwards, Rebecca worked as an actor,
stage manager, director, and various theatre jobs.
Rebecca earned her BA in Theatre from Earlham College and her MFA in
Creative Writing from Antioch University Los Angeles. While at Antioch,
she worked with Jim Krusoe (author of Girl
Factory), Tara Ison (author of The
List), Leonard Chang (author of the Allen
Choice mysteries) and Paul Lisicky (author of Lawnboy).
One of Rebecca’s most heady experiences was
rock climbing blindfolded in the Clifton Gorge State Park.
Making a full circle, Rebecca and her husband, the
writer Robert Freeman
Wexler, bought and renovated a 1937 cottage on the edge of the Clifton
Gorge State Park. The small but charming house has proven to be an ideal
place for writing. In December 2007, their daughter Merida Kuder-Wexler
was born.
In addition to her short publications,
Rebecca has written a novel, The
Watery Girl, and is at work on a new novel.
Rebecca teaches creative writing for the Individualized
Liberal and Professional Studies program at Antioch Unversity McGregor.
