Fort Flagler is located eight miles northeast of Port Hadlock, WA on the northern tip of
Marrowstone Island. The fort was completed in 1907, and in use until 1953. The fort has about
5 miles of hiking trails, an large beachfront, several fort emplacements and a museum. There is
a large field adjacent to the beach which is perfect for kite flying. The Friends of Fort Flagler
have been working very hard to preserve and restore the fortifications to their original state.
They have been removing the tree and shrub growth that was damaging the structures. They have also been
installing placards that explain the origins of the bunker names, and the function
of the bunkers. The guns that are there are not original, but are similar to those that would have
been there. Part of this fort is restricted from the public. The Friends of Fort Flagler do tours of
the restricted areas each weekend. Check with the museum or the park office to find out the details.
