Love To Love

by Tom Minkler

You’re probably used to getting
cards and flowers
And I don’t want to be
just one of the crowd
There’s no way I can know
who brings you April showers
Who brings you rainbows by the hour
And what makes you smile
that wonderful way you do
Or how to touch your heart
Or whether I should even try
Or how to say I like you
when I always feel so shy
So obviously nervous
(can’t you tell? :)
around your angel’s
grace and style

Once I realized I liked you
all my reason flew away
I wonder if I’m crazy
If you knew what would you say?
I cannot speak I feel stupid
Who am I what do I do?
I’m looking for a cupid
and all I see is you

To love you from a distance
To be so close
but oh, so far
away from understanding
whether what I feel
is from your heart

Is it too fast;
to soon to find
a love to last
or just in my mind?
Why would God
make me feel this way
if it isn’t something real?
Why would he want to hurt me
with a wound that will not heal?

But it’s too late
to turn back now
and if it’s love
I’ll take a bow
and if it’s not,
my curtain call
and out of love
I’ll surely fall

But still
I would be thrilled
just to be your friend

Oh, how I love to love.
