Biography
I studied music
theory and composition under Newton Strandberg at Sam Houston State University,
and voice under Dan Wright at Sam Houston and The University of Texas at
El Paso. I played flute and piccolo with the 298th Army Band in Berlin,
Germany.
After the Army,
I embarked on a career in rock n roll, playing keyboards, flute, and saxophone
with many groups, including The Drifters, Ambrosia, The Pointer Sisters,
and The Chambers Brothers. I have produced a couple of records, and scored
a few films. A major influence in my musical life was Milton Pullen, who
first taught me the fundamentals of music theory in high school.
In the mid-eighties,
I met Lou Vaughn, who taught me about computers, and I embarked on a new
career as a software engineer. I currently serve as Vice President of Software
Engineering for Magnasync/Moviola Corporation in Hollywood, CA. We do lots
of neat things in the movie, recording, and telephone businesses. You can
visit our web site at: www.moviola.com
I started composing
MIDI music in February of 1997, and would appreciate hearing from others
who share similar musical interests. You can email me at: mlsmith1@earthlink.net
