Dutch Treat

Grandpop drove the hind road
round to town.
Lived where the train bends.
Tasted salty
smelled like Burma Shave
felt like burley velvet
whistled birdsong.
It wonders me, ain't not?
Throw me up the lane
those memories of love.

Pop, all stubbly
eating himself full
chewing his mouth empty
the ice cream is all, but
the cake is yet--

Grandma never wore
store boughten dresses
could make them up
out of her head.
Such pretty things for
a body to see.
Took on with Pop fer good
as soon as she first saw him
she fell herself in luff.
Such a pair of schmutzers!

Rain on my windshield
Ain't it somesin' how it
keeps up makin' down,
sneaky weather and
slippy out here where
the road gets all in December.

They grew too soon oldt.
Got wonderful sick--
first Grandma, then Pop.
It makes so heavy in my heart.
Throw me up the lane
those memories of love.

It wonders me, ain't not?
