What is the deal with this page?
I find and post words and phrases that might make good names for music groups. I just got carried away. Many of my friends joined in. And now I've gone so far as to write up this FAQ page.

Why band names?
I dunno. Maybe I liked Dave Barry's occasional band name observations (he has a Web site of names too). Maybe working at a college radio station fueled my own imagination. Maybe I ate too much sausage one day. Some of my friends suggest I should also post would-be names for porno flicks, but I think there are enough people working on such projects.

Any of your names turn into bands?
No, but a couple of bands turned into our names. My friend Eric came up with a name (Autocide) that belonged to a Northern Ireland group in the 1980s. There's a pop-up window linked to that name in his section. More recently, I discovered my album name Somnambulation is also the name for a band in the UK.

This has happened a few times in the past as well. I couldn't find official Web sites for some of those bands, so I just took the names off my site. Better safe than sued.

Ever try to form a band of your own?
I lack musical talent, though I can whistle reasonably well. Some of my friends have musical talent, but none of them have come to me about a band name yet. Maybe they're afraid I'll ask to join the group.

What is wrong with you people?
Nothing, really. Maybe I'll get bored with this some day and start a page of made-for-TV movie titles (such as Don't Cry for the Chipmunk or Not Without My Rubber Band Collection). But don't hold your breath for the porno titles page.

So I spent several years writing down random phrases and posting them on a Web site. There are worse ways to waste time.

At least everyone involved is fully clothed. Plus this site is unlikely to warp young minds. Just think of the thousands of sites out there that can't make those claims, and you'll quickly support this pointless, but harmless diversion.
