Getting used to it

       I embrace my ugliness
rub my bald head like a scar
       blood cannot heal

       I flaunt my roughness
       eat loudly with gusto
       bad breath a badge

       I dress like a slob
       blunder through traffic
       mumble and falter
when it's my time to shine

But when no one is looking
       I walk with silk strides,
glideful dance of a prideful man

and when no one is listening
       music tumbles from my hands,
       accidental jazz across the keys
