from where I stand

perhaps this trail too
is strewn with pebbles
uncertain under our feet --
I can only say that the climb
has been easier, somehow
since you joined me in it.

for now I will not worry
how the path wanders
or whether an unseen fork 
may take you a different way:
distant mountains beckon;
they will yet be climbed.
