how to go on
what to believe in
now

They can't even look at one another
as they stumble away from the cross
disoriented and numb
their world shattered

Each had half-hoped
that something would still happen
disrupt the horrifying progression of events
restore their sense of purpose
return Him to them

But instead there He was
tormented
crying out his hopelessness
rending the earth with his departure
and leaving them alone
shocked and stricken
Godforsaken

Each turns away
fleeing into the darkness
alone with the despair
not yet knowing
how the story ends
